Numerical Simulation on Windage Power Loss of High-Speed Spur Gear with Baffles

Windage power loss (WPL) is significant and cannot be neglected in a study on transmission efficiency reducing the energy consumption of high-speed gear. The influence mechanism baffle reduction WPL needs to further studied. Based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology, this paper puts stress analyzing axial radial baffles viscous pressure effects with groove structures WPL. numerical calculation model windage torque considering baffle’s regulation established, results different configurations are obtained. indicate that mainly reduces loss, while caused by effect affected baffle. smallest clearance achieves most suppression windage. On basis, adding smooth can have positive or negative impact WPL, circular grooves promote 8.2%, compared baffles. This provides reference for optimal design engineering applications.
